Amy in Yoga
Amy completed her 200-RYT teacher training at Liberation Yoga in Los Angeles in 2014 and began teaching a year later at a women’s prison outside Compton, CA and at Venice Family Clinic. These opportunities defined her perspective and teaching in yoga as holistic – or heavily balanced physically, mentally and (sometimes) spiritually – to promote peace of mind and well-being “from the inside out.”
Amy also completed specialized instruction as follows: Yoga, Mindfulness and Social Change 100-hour certificate from LMU, Prison Yoga Project, Uprising Yoga, and Street Yoga trauma-informed teacher trainings, Accessible Bodies training with Canadian-based instructor Dianne Bondy, and Off the Mat Into the World’s Advanced Leadership training in global social development. She has developed ongoing programs and taught regular asana and meditation classes at a women’s jail in Lynwood, CA, and at the Irma Colen Center of Venice Family Clinic in Culver City, CA.
Amy published her writing on meditation and yoga as a contributor to Headspace’s The Orange Dot, a blog furnished by the nation’s #1 meditation app, and has her own yoga blog at www.ayearinyoga.com. Amy’s primary objective is to increase access to yoga and awareness regarding the healing potential and everyday pragmatism of a regular asana and meditation practice. Amy released her first book entitled, A Year in Yoga: Science and Practice of Trauma-Informed Mindfulness in Fall 2016.
Amy in Business

(Thank you from my heart for opening my mind to ethical business practices and infinite possibilities.)
Now, Amy carries prior expertise into her professional life as Owner and Studio Director of North Port Yoga + Wellness. Amy developed a 200+ hour teacher training curriculum registered with Yoga Alliance (learn more here) and enjoys sharing the fullness of her perspective and practice with soon-to-be-teachers and self-studying yogi/nis. She continues to teach weekly Recovery and Veterans yoga, as well as studio and community (off-site) classes.
Amy published her thesis entitled, “A Year in Yoga: Science and Practice of Trauma-Informed Mindfulness” in 2016, due to growing interest and dialogue on the topic.
